Career interview with Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport's Guest Service Assistant, Josie Cotter.

Kew & A with Josie Cotter

1. Tell us about yourself outside of work

I love swimming. In the summer I participate in free-swimming which is swimming in open water. I do this from Merseyside Watersport Centre on the dock. It really challenges me to push myself and the cold water definitely wakes you up! I hoped to participate in a triathlon in the summer of this year, however, unfortunately, this is not looking likely due to COVID regulations and I’ve also had difficulty training due to gym closures, there’s always 2022.

I really love animals as well, we have recently started allowing dogs to stay in the hotel if booked with a certain rate and I love it. Some of the dogs we have had in are adorable and it definitely puts a smile on my face anytime we see one of our fluffy guests walking through the door!

I spend a lot of time outside walking on my days off, sign me up for anything where the countryside and fresh air is involved! I also have a great passion for good food and wine (who doesn’t) and eating out in nice restaurants is something I also really enjoy.

2. What, where and when was your first job in hospitality?

This is actually my first job in hospitality and I love it! Before this I worked in administration and I’m still a Beauty Therapist on the side.

3. What has been your path with Kew Green Hotels to get to where you are now?

I have only been with the company since January 2020 however I’ve really tried to stand out. I feel I’ve really been encouraged by my team and colleagues to excel at what I’m doing and opportunities are available for those who are willing to work for them.

I really love that at Kew Green, anything is possible if you apply yourself and do the work.

4. Why did you choose to work at KGH?

I have stayed at many IHG hotels in the past and they are excellent. It is my pleasure to be part of such a reputable company and I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me so far!

5. What do you think Kew Green has offered you and your career that you perhaps wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do elsewhere?

As I’ve said above, I feel like the possibilities are endless with Kew Green Hotels if you apply yourself and strive to be the best at what you do. I feel like there are very few companies you can work your way up with determination and hard work, but Kew Green is one of them!

6. What did you learn about yourself in 2020?

I live on my own so I found the first lockdown suite challenging and lonely, like a lot of people. I’ve really been surprised by my own determination to not let it get me down; I’ve also felt so blessed to have the little things this year, I feel it’s been such a strange year for everyone but it’s really taught me what’s important and so I’ve entered 2021 with a grateful heart for everyone everything I have.
