A look back at 2019 for Kew Green Hotels

'Tis the season

‘Tis the season of hope and joy, so we wanted to share some of Kew Green Hotel’s community-focused work from over the last 12 months and give huge thanks to our wonderful, selfless and hard-working employees.

The Clink and NOVUS Works

To tackle barriers for ex and at-risk offenders, KGH developed successful partnership with The Clink charity – an organisation supporting offenders gain hospitality experience and qualifications to equip them for release, and NOVUS Works – a charity supporting offenders over-come hurdles into employment. We are proud to be reducing reoffending for those being released from prison. Offering support with employability and work experience for those on temporary license , with the aim to offer permanent employment, as well as visiting these potential candidates in prison to support in CV and Interview techniques.

TryHospitality – HITZ Rugby

“TRYHospitality” is a programme that KGH developed in partnership with Premier Rugby’s award-winning community initiative HITZ – who support over 2000 NEET young people by offering employability training and work-experience opportunities. TRYHospitality is a hugely successful initiative for us that has provided disadvantaged and disillusioned young people new education and training opportunities to realise their personal outcomes, not to mention encouraging participants to think about the impact of food on their health and wellbeing.

Hotel Takeover

Hotel Takeover, a KGH initiative that has been running for 20 years, see our Hotels partner-up with local schools and colleges, inviting a group of students to take over the running of their hotel once a year. We have found that this has not only engaged our own employees, but has inspired students to see hospitality as a strong, potential career path.

Feed Leicester and Ready for Work

As a result of volunteering work the People Team did with hungry and homeless charity, Feed Leicester, the Talent Resourcing Team were inspired to work in more depth with ex and at-risk rough sleepers, developing a relationship with Prince’s Responsible Business Network’s “Ready for Work” charity, who partner with businesses across the UK to offer work experience and an interview. At the very beginning of 2019, Kew Green Hotels became the first Hospitality partner for “Ready for Work”, offering these experiences throughout each department within our hotels.

On top of all this, as a company we have now raised over £300,000 for our beloved charity, GreenFingers.
