We’re pleased to announce the opening of the ibis Styles Birmingham Airport NEC hotel.
The site is the second Kew Green managed hotel to open its doors under the ibis Styles brand, with extensive refurbishment taking place on the site. Crewe was the first site opened and two further sites, Haydock and Barnsley, are due to open this autumn with total investment from the hotels’ owners, Carillion plc, standing at £2.5 million. These four hotels are part of a 54 strong Kew Green portfolio across the UK.
Combining historical and cultural aspects of the local area, with the unique identity and strong design-led aspects of ibis Styles hotels, the theming takes inspiration from the fact the city can claim to be one of the major transport hubs of England. With bustling stations, Britain’s second busiest airport and more canals than Venice, the hotel showcases the transport credentials of the region mixed with funky design features from the swinging sixties.
The iconic Spaghetti Junction roundabout has been reimagined as a yellow design on the carpets, while vintage prints of Birmingham’s industrial history adorn the walls. For those who need to relax after a hard day of travel themselves, the bar, styled in the shape of an aeroplane wing, is the perfect spot in which to unwind. Bike pedals are attached to the bar stools while little passengers can play on toy cars, planes and a double-decker bus in the play area.
Against this backdrop, the hotel offers a range of modern amenities including free high speed wifi, all-inclusive breakfast and extensive conferencing and meeting room facilities.
Alison Harrison, General Manager, says of the launch; “Travelling can be stressful at the best of times, so what better way for flyers to unwind than in the comfortable, relaxing surroundings of the hotel. We wanted to combine our location at the heart of England with the fact that Birmingham is a real travel hub and a historic industrial force. And with our location so close to the NEC we’re the perfect spot for exhibitors to get a good night’s sleep before the big day! Whether you are flying off to foreign shores, taking in the world class entertainment of the NEC or simply enjoying a break, we’ll see you off in style and make you feel like one of the jet-set, even if you’re not leaving the city!”
Graham Norris, Director of Operations – Managed Hotels at Kew Green adds, “Birmingham is a city known for its eclectic mix of sights, sounds and people, with strong transport and industrial connections and we therefore felt it was only right we paid homage to this in the design of the hotel. The new site allows us to continue our partnership with ibis Styles and link our strong management credentials with the distinctive design ethos of ibis. We look forward to rebranding two further hotels over the coming weeks and strengthening our offering to customers.”
