1) What has brought you to the role you’re in now?
I started on a part-time contract in leisure at Holiday Inn Ipswich, as a second job to support savings, I then came across to work for Kew Green full time, as the company made me feel passionate, and driven again. Over the next 4 years, I progressed from a part-time team member to Front Office Manager, Operations Manager, and finally Hotel Manager.
2) What obstacles have you had to overcome along the way?
During my time with Kew Green Hotels, I have faced numerous personal and health issues – all of which I have overcome with the support of my #Outstanding friends, and colleagues.
I have never known support like it within a work capacity, and this is one of the many reasons that I am so passionate about supporting my own teams both professionally, and personally wherever possible. I feel I need to…
…’Pay it Forward’.
3) What’s kicks you back up when you face the tough times?
My team, and my fellow South Central GM’s, without fail. We are incredibly lucky that we have such a team-minded, and focused region. There are always smiling faces available to support with advice, best practice, and humour when required. And with Michael Lyons at the helm… Well, what more could you need to pick you back up?!
4) Who’s your biggest icon and why?
My biggest icon has got to be my Mum, and I wholeheartedly feel that she is worthy of veneration, and to be called an Icon. This amazing woman taught me how to be empathetic, caring and how to be a truly honest, trustworthy person. Growing up, she always had 2 or 3 jobs on the go, and followed through on gaining her degree in criminal psychology whilst working, and looking after 2 children on her own.
She instilled a great work ethic, and what I believe to be a genuine caring attitude in me. She makes the world a better place to live in for me, every day.
5) What bit of advice would you give to your teenage self?
Listen to your Mother – She knows what she is talking about!
