Kew Green Hotels announces plans of a multi-million pound refurbishment to a local Walsall hotel to soon become the Holiday Inn Walsall M6 Jct10.

The group’s significant investment in the property will transform the hotel into a relaxing and stylish base for business and leisure guests. Holiday Inn Walsall, M6 Jct 10 will feature 156 newly refurbished Standard and Executive rooms allowing guests to enjoy the added benefit of being just a short distance from major transport networks and Walsall’s main train station.

The enhancement project includes 10 conference rooms, catering for up 150 theatre style, as well as a range of leisure facilities such as a swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, and fitness room.  The refurbishment is due to be completed in December 2011, with the opening scheduled for January 2012.

The introduction of Voltage Power Optimisation unit (VPO)® from PowerPerfector will see an annual saving of around £8,000 and 45,000kg of CO2. The hotel will see a return on investment within four years.  Voltage Power Optimisation reduces energy costs and the associated carbon emissions by optimising the voltage supply level so your electrical equipment operates more efficiently. As a result, it consumes less energy and reduces an organisation’s carbon footprint. Equally important and intrinsic to the design, the technology improves power quality, reducing phase voltage imbalance, suppressing harmonics and protecting against spikes of up to 25kV.

This latest innovation into the Stansted site complements the recently installed Grohe shower and wash hand basin water saving devices that are predicted to save 11,000  litres of water annually along with additional savings in electricity and gas used to heat and pump water throughout the hotel. In addition ONITY energy saving key cards are being introduced to all bedrooms by contractor Premier Electrical (Southern) Ltd. These devices operated with the use of the hotel room key; activate  the lights and air conditioning units in the bedrooms to remove the element of over running during guest vacation of the room. The Carbon Trust involvement is a significant first for Kew Green Hotels whom are looking forward to undertaking further projects throughout the UK portfolio.

The water saving devices are just one of a number of energy & resources saving measures being placed in Liverpool Crowne Plaza – John Lennon Airport. A new waste & recycling package was unveiled in February 2010 with waste streams being diverted from landfill to recycling & waste to energy plants across the North West. Kew Green have been working with ACM Waste Management (www.acmplc.com) & are now looking to increase recycle, re-use & waste to energy programmes across the UK estate.

In November 2010 the installation of a new Combined Heat & Power Plant (CHP) will bolster efforts.
